How to Enter Tasks into Omnifocus via the Web

I love Omnifocus for managing my tasks, but its biggest downside is that there is no web interface: just apps for the desktop and iOS devices. I work in an office, and since Omnifocus for Mac is only installed on my home computer, the only way I can review my tasks away from home is via the iPhone app. This is all well and good, but sometimes I just want to copy-and-paste some info from the desktop web browser into Omnifocus instead of, say, typing it out into my phone.

Fortunately, there’s a way around this. Omnifocus for iPhone pulls in the tasks from the native Reminders app (the default list). To enable this, you have to go into the app’s settings, and turn “iCloud Reminders” on (and of course you need to have an iCloud account). I often assign tasks to Siri when I’m walking (“Remind me to…”) and these reminders get imported into Omnifocus.

Well, there’s another way to get tasks into Omnifocus: iCloud.com. Yes, that clunky web interface that’s mostly an update of MobileMe. I pretty much never use it, but if you sign in and click over to the Calendar, on the right side you can select “New Reminder.” You can’t do much (schedule for a specific time or context) but the basic reminder will sync with the Reminders app on your phone, and then when you launch Omnifocus for iPhone the task will be there.

Some Email Solutions (that don’t involve the Mail Clip-O-Tron 3000)

Send an email containing your task to send-to-omnifocus@omnigroup.com

Email this line to yourself, and click on the link in your iPhone mail app. In the example used in the forum, the author inserts %20 wherever a space would be, so if you want your task to say “do this” you would put the following into the body of your email:

     omnifocus:///add?name=do%20this

And if you also want to include a note to this task (like “call Jeff”) then write the following:
