Pisces Full Moon (Lunar Eclipse) - August 28, 2007

Full Moon in PiscesIt's eclipse time, y'all! Eclipses are uber-powerful lunations, as the Moon and Sun are conjunct the Lunar Nodes, which are the points in the sky where the Moon's path intersects with the Sun's apparent path (ecliptic). (The astronomy's kinda confusing, I know!) All you really need to know is this: If a regular Full Moon makes people crazy, a Lunar Eclipse requires that twice as many looney-bin paramedics be on call than usual.

Speaking of psychosis, this Full Moon is in Pisces, the sign of crazies and mental hospitals. After all, when life gets too stressful, you either drink, do yoga, or disassociate from reality altogether. The problem is that rigid Virgo Sun, always trying to analyze and compartmentalize.

Virgo is the nurse practitioner at Bellevue, trying to ascertain whether your psychotic episode is due to mental illness or if it's just alcohol-induced. She's completing a five-page assessment while you're in la-la land, wondering how those bunnies got into the room with the cushioned walls.

The Virgo part of you creates obsessive-compulsive rituals to stave off the anxiety of Piscean boundlessness. If you check that the front door is locked -- three times -- then your home just might be safe! That is, you might be safe. But not really, because you know that you're just this close from the edge of the cliff of consensual reality, and your rigid habits only create the illusion of control.

The conventional psychiatrist will just dose you up with a nice cocktail to zombify you. However, one of those wacko transpersonal docs may prescribe surrender. Just go with the flow, man! What do those bunnies mean, anyway? Can your dreams, however cockamamie, tell you something useful about either your unconscious or God's will? Maybe insanity is just a deviation from the collective's immersion in media and material consumption! If so, then -- PLEASE -- go off the deep end! Let it all hang out!

But if you see the men in white coats, do me a favor -- RUN!

The Fine Print: This eclipse occurs at 4 Pisces, so it will have the most impact for those natives with planets or angles around 4 degrees of mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces).

Note to Commenters: I will be on vacation the week of August 27, and am unlikely to respond to your comments. So help each other out!

This is your funniest yet, Jeffrey.:-)

btw, I'm thnakful I *don't* have mutable signs in early degrees--I'm already *luna*tic enough as it is.LOL

(forgive the pun.)

Help! I've Venus at 7 Pisces conjunct Mars and Jupiter both at 12 Pisces... and am quite eccentric enough already. What's this going to be like?

Jane, the eclipse will primarily trigger relationship/love/money/values themes for you. The question you should ask yourself is how dreamy/escapist/ungrounded/imaginative are you in these areas?

hi jeffrey i adore your fantastic insights. I have moon in pisces at 1:49 conjunct south node and chiron- do you have any ideas advice for me? Many thanks. Enjoy your holiday.

queenie -- moon, south node and chiron all have to do with the past in some way, so this eclipse may bring up old wounds, family stuff, maybe even past life stuff. Although I think in general the eclipse is more potent when it's applying to planets rather than separating from them.

OMG, Jeff, this is hilarious! Where exactly are you going to be taking your "vacation?"

j/k :-)

I would like to ask you one thing, though. This eclipse series has been in effect since March 2006. True, this will be the first eclipse in the series to take place in the early degrees of Pisces/Virgo, but do you think that by now we should have a pretty good idea of how this series has been affecting our lives? Might it not just be "more of the same?"

For me, last year's lunar eclipse in Pisces (Sept. 7) brought an incident with someone who had been secretly jealous of me. It was ugly, and my challenge was to understand that it really wasn't personal and to be compassionate.

Just curious about your take on this.

Pat, that's a good question. These recent eclipses have been affecting me personally, especially with the involvement of Uranus. An eclipse hit my Sun a whiles ago, and this eclipse is on my Virgo Asc. I wouldn't necessarily say the eclipses are more of the same, because even though they are re-occurring in the same signs, aren't they different Saros cycles? I wish I had 'The Eagle and the Lark' accessible, but it's in storage. According to Bernadette Brady, these cycles would add more info to the nature of the eclipses. Something to think about, although I must say it's a bit complex.

Blogger Pat Paquette said...

I've heard of that book and know about the Saros cycles, but I've never had a chance to investigate it myself. Although Bernadette Brady is one of the world's most respected astrologers, I wouldn't automatically accept her theory without testing it out myself.

I just did a little research and discovered that this eclipse is part of the Saros 128 family of lunar eclipses. Lunar eclipses in this family took place in 1953, 1971, and 1989. The next one (after Aug. 28) will be in 2025. There are also solar eclipses in this family. The past three were in 1958, 1976, and 1994. The next one will be in 2012.

I admit to having a hard time accepting how such long time frames could apply to an individual human lifetime. My observation is that, from an individual perspective, the house position is important, along with any direct hits on personal planets and house rulers (1-3 degrees). Have you not noticed this in your work with clients?

FYI, I know someone with Venus at 4 degrees Pisces and Moon at 17 degrees Virgo. The solar eclipse on Sept. 11 will be at 18' Virgo. So you can bet that I've got this cosmic guinea pig under my microscope!

Thanks for all these comments... I have been counting down to this astrology event as it's on my Birthday AND my natal moon is in Pisces. Don't have my chart w/me now but can look up specific degrees later if needed. Any idea how this eclipse could affect me? Lisa

Pat, I agree with you that Saros cycles wouldn't have much impact on individuals, and I do look at the eclipse's house placement and conjunction/hard aspects to planets.

The Saros cycles would probably show more in the nature of mundane events that happen during the eclipes ... for example, a repeat in the themes of political changes, disasters, etc.

That makes sense to me intuitively, Jeff, and it would be my starting point for research. Your Pisces Sun and my Pisces Moon seem to be "thinking" along the same lines :-)

That's too funny. :-) I will make sure I run from the white coats and check my lock three times. Bummer I have no planets at 4 degrees the only one is Lilith in Taurus 4 degrees.
I have to get a reading from Jeffrey!

Hysterical post, Jeff! I happen to have my chiron 1 degree 29' Pisces, Pallas 7 degrees 31' Pisces what does that mean during this eclipse with my fortune at 8 degrees 37' Cancer? More dire is the need of understanding the impact on a bipolar with his midheaven 7 degrees 07' Pisces, 7 degree 07' Virgo, Lilith 4 degree 07' Cancer, Pluto 3 degree 48' Virgo, and Neptune 6 degree 39' Scorpio?

Egads, I don't know what to personally make of this eclipse. I may just stay home and dream all day.

I am V V = Very Virgo: rising 17 degrees Virgo, Sun 21 degrees Virgo, Mercury 19 degrees Virgo, Venus 00 degrees Virgo, Pluto 04 degrees Virgo, BUT with Moon 02 degrees Pisces. Mars in Libra at 06 degress.

AND, according to my math, which as a V Virgo is pretty accurate, I'm also due to start my monthly on that day. Wow. Any advice?

Hey folks, although I feel I should respond to everybody who offers their vitals, there's only so much I have to give. Any other readers out there are welcome to offer their insights to fellow commenters. For now, I'm going to sit this one out, and only respond to non-chart-related issues concerning the eclipse -- that is, until I'm off on my road trip!

WELL, NATURALLY THIS ECLIPSE IS ALL VERY AMUSING UNLESS ONE IS BOUND TO BE AFFECTED BY IT SERIOUSLY.

I HAVE VENUS IN PISCES AT 4 DEGREES IN THE 12TH HOUSE. I KNOW SOMETHING AWFUL IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF WHEN.

SO, WHEN SHOULD I GET READY TO DIAL SUICIDE HOTLINE? :-(

*IT'S ONLY FUNNY- WHEN ITS NOT YOUR CHART*

Although I don't have anything at 4 degrees Virgo or Pisces my daughter has Mutable T-square missing Pisces. What ever happens we should take a step back and cool it - go with the flow. As much as the planets may have an affect - we still have choices - thinking negatively or positively -its all a learning process.

JANICE -- My Asc is 4 Virgo -- I have no clue what's going to happen (relationship stuff, I gather), but thinking that the sky is falling is not going to help me. Humor actually can help WHEN IT IS YOUR CHART.

Jeff- Typically, I have had a "What will be- will be" type attitude about astrology, since I know we cannot run from our charts.

I guess the fact that you can never quite pin things down in the 12 house- it makes it that much ominous.

This is the house of Sorrow- an- *Unfortunate House*- and also known as a garbage house.

What could manifest in here due to this eclispe and my 4 degrees of Venus in Pisces, is anyone's guess and that is what makes it unsettling to me- I really have nothing to go on- and usually I do.
Sometimes you can steel yourself for what is coming down the road and it can be helpful.
When things feel very nebulous- it is beyond disconcerting!

I'm really into veggin out at home anyway. I missed the last topic regarding the new moon and it went down as being uneventful.

Therefore I'm not going to worry about something that may not even effect me. That way of something does happen it will be a surprise :)

Janice, I get what you're saying. From past observation, what has occurred with transits to your 12th House Venus ... for example, when Uranus conjoined it?

With Uranus(25'36 and Pluto(4'49 in Libra, anything I should duck and cover from?

Why is everybody assuming the eclipse will be bad for them? I am a rational Virgo (sun & two planets)and the eclipse will almost oppose my 12th house cusp (where the Virgo stuff is) from the just inside the 6th. I have been having a great week so far, that is since about Wed. Before that I was depressed about returning from vacation in Mexico. Like he says, go with the FLOW! I was thinking maybe I should move to Baja.

Hi Kids,
So, this eclipse is an interesting one for me...it's conjuncting my natal North Node/ Moon in Pisces. And what's interesting it's a mutual reception. Meaning, The Transiting North Node is conjuncting my Natal Moon at 7 deg Pisces exactly and the transiting Eclipse Moon is conjunct my Natal North Node at 4 degree Pisces. In the 1st House. Oh yeah, my Natal Vertex is a 7 Virgo.

Oh, by the way...my time of the month started on the today (8/28) (I'm a Cancer Sun too!!)
I'm sure I will be a Lunatic all this week.

I can feel the craziness.

hi jeffrey, i know you're on vacay but i just wanted to complement your site. i stumbled upon it just now...typical of my 1 degree pisces rising (leo sun, aquarius moon), it just dawned on me in the middle of my exploding life that the eclipse is merely hours away! anyway, i was a search engine poo-pooer in the beginning (guess the pisces in me had difficulty sorting through what you could call "too much information," but i suppose stumbling on your very funny and insightful blog is proof that googling can indeed bear fruit :-)

hang on and try to enjoy the ride everyone! light,

Hi Jeff,
are you still answering questions about the Lunar Eclipse? I hope so, since I've read that their impact can be felt for over a year. My moon is 7* Pisces, and my baby girl's true node is around 5* Pisces. I know that that's an astrological blessing for a mother/daughter relationship, but I wanted to know the impact of this lunar eclipse on us.
Peace

Hello Jeff,

I appreciate your insight. This Aug 28/07 lunar eclipse at 4 degrees Pisces occurred EXACTLY on my MC.

Coincidentally it was the first day of work alone with my new boss. The eclipse occurred EXACTLY on his black moon Lilith.

So, his Lilith is conjunct my MC. And the lunar eclipse activated this synastry somehow.

Would you be so kind as to elaborate. This is driving us to distraction.

Cheers and God bless

I don't recall what Black Moon Lilith means, although I have read about it in the past. I'm a simple 10 planets kind of astrologer. Can't help you :(

Black Moon Lilith (a deeply fascinating, hypothetical point in astrology), is symbolic of the darker side of our nature...hidden depths we prefer not to acknowledge. It is a part of our personality we often deny and project onto others. Inevitably, we are forced to confront and explore the hidden depths wherever it makes its presence known in our natal birthcharts. Some Black Moon Lilith themes consist of guilt, shame, hatred, envy and vengefulness, often brought about by personal wounds and hurtful associations.

oh, he's threatened by my MC for sure; and that dark ugly side of his is particularly appealing to me, in an erotic way

being a Scorp, I love the control I have here, gives me a sense of security

he's a lunar Scorp and he's scrambling for emotional control and hides it well

tsk tsk

Aha! With all this Lilith talk going on at Seduction Central in various discussions (and one particularly lengthy thread) I have been enlightened with an epiphany of sorts!

According to a brilliant web blogger's insights on Lilith (there are 3 faces to this bitch in the shadows):

"In a man's chart Black Moon Lilith can represent his creative muse or the type of woman most suited to him; but only if he is completely honest with himself. Therefore Lilith often indicates exactly the kind of woman a man would be most terrified of."
