New Moon Solar Eclipse in Pisces - March 18, 2007
Sometimes I listen to progressive metal, a hybrid of art-rock and heavy metal with guitar lines so low and loud, they shake every molecule of your body. Yet this music also includes all the pretentions of serious musicians intent on including odd meters and contrapuntal melodies -- not to mention lyrics about ancient civilizations and occult claptrap. This solar eclipse is kind of like art metal. The Sun and Moon are conjunct (a New Moon ) in ethereal, musical Pisces, but in a tense square -- a 90-degree angle -- to Pluto, lord of the underworld. We plant our dream-seeds into the fertile earth, just a few days before spring, with the chthonic power of nature forcing our fantasies to either survive or perish.
Pluto drags our transcendent urges into the nether regions of our psyche, confronting us with our devils and demons. One spiritual downfall (to which Pisces is prone) is the propensity to meditate for hours on end, revelling in bliss states to escape one's very real problems here on earth. Altered states of consciousness are not ends in themselves, strivings to experience mental fireworks and out-of-body experiences. Rather, the "work" is useful insofar as it helps us to be more compassionate beings in daily life.
The elements of Self we have cast off into the recesses of our unconscious cannot be avoided, especially with Pluto blocking our path at the intersection between heaven and hell. An attempt to paint, write music or sit zazen releases all the twisted, dark images that have been rooting around in the basement. They can no longer be avoided. Instead, incorporate them into your art. Black paints, harsh power chords, chaotic dance moves ... unleash the hell-fire of Self and channel it into your spiritual strivings, creating the humus to bring your dream-seeds to life.
The Fine Print: This New Moon occurs at 28 Pisces. If you have personal planets or angles between 25-29 degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) or 0-2 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), this Solar Eclipse will have a strong impact over the next year. Look to the houses containing 28 Pisces and 28 Sagittarius to see which areas of your life will be affected.

What if the Eclipse is on the cusp of a house? For example, the eclipse Sun hits the end of my 7th/cusp of 8th and will conjunct my natal Mercury in the 8th.
A solar eclipse conjunct the 8th house cusp will instigate issues regarding sexual intimacy, shared finances, occult and other hidden matters, literal and figurative death.
Conjunct natal Mercury (I assume in Pisces, not Aries?), the eclipse will stimulate you to think about these matters in an imaginative, poetic way. Also you should look to the houses where Gemini and Virgo are on the cusp.
You're brilliant. Love the way you explain things..
My question - if you have time to answer - is this:
I have IC at 26 degrees Sag. My North node is at 28 degrees Sag.
My DC is at 27 degrees Pisces. I have a Sag sun.
My son - who is 5, has the same IC/DC minus 1 degree. He is a Pisces Sun conjunct Moon.
I assume this will in some way be about my relationship - which is not completely on the rocks, but that may be because we ran out of energy. :-) - because of the 7th house.
The eclipse was situated in my boyfriend 2nd house (Sag) and 5 th house (Pisces) at March 18, 2007.
I hope that you have the time to give me an answer - I'd be grateful.
miatilda,
Yes, your 7th house is being affected by the eclipse. In fact it's a pretty powerful eclipse because it's also squaring your MC/IC.
Transiting Pluto on your IC/N.Node is also transforming both the foundations of your life and your spiritual growth.
Both new beginnings in relationship and death-rebirth in your home life.
My Asc. is at 27PIS56 - so the eclipse falls just into my first house. Many of the eclipses of the past few years have been hitting planets and angles in my chart - will this one be 'the big one' (especially since transformative Pluto was also conj. my MC during the eclipse)?
Looks big to me, since it's falling right on your Asc. Have you noticed anything re: your body or your interactions?
okay. this is weird. i was browsing to find information about my MC and the date on your post March 18th caught my eye because its my birthday. also..i guess i didnt realize last year that their was a new moon eclipse then, i am sort of new to astrology. im always watching for connections. also..i seem to be drawn to people named jeffery ...so far in the last year i guess...i just thought i should comment. im glad to have found your blog! i hope to learn a lot. i would love to show you my chart if you're interested.
