No, I am not a manwhore
I've been temping this week to pay the bills, and my temp-colleagues find "Seduction Central" to be an odd name for an astrology blog. One woman said that "Seduction Central" sounds like a pickup blog for guys; another woman asked if I'm a manwhore.
I wrote about this last summer, when I asked for alternative names to this blog. None of the suggestions (other than Astroboingin') were nearly good enough to convince me to change. Yet, I've been thinking about branding, especially after blogger Wendy Piersall of eMomsAtHome wrote about the gaping void between her brand and her audience. She wants her blog network to be perceived as a "magazine-style blog network, focused on ... home business, entrepreneurship, and life balance" -- not as a bunch of "Mommy Bloggers."
So, if I'm in this blog thing for the long haul, I would seriously consider re-branding this blog. The title should have something about astrology in it, and something about relationships, love and sex -- but can't be boring. What I like so much about the current title is that it's alliterative. Plus, the "Central" makes it sound like a hub, like it's the most happening place to be.

Hey, how 'bout "Wheel of Seduction"? It's still a hub, but refers more to the zodiac wheel. Plus it's "on a roll" so to speak. :-)
I don't have any ideas but manwhore? Oh God that's funny, ::chuckles:: Honest to God this my day. I'm sorry, Jeff, Good luck. :-)
I like the name Seduction Central! I think it has helped you get pretty good rankings just on keywords based on the name. And, you have a lot of people coming to your site because it deals with seduction, love, astrology, etc.
Want don't you just leave the name as is, and keep focus on your key words for generating who you want to visit?
Keep up the good work. You should be very proud with your success with the site.

you should tell those *itches where to go ;)
(like back to where they came from)
and give some credit where credit is due
for crappin out loud
Jeffery this site IS Seductive! Once you stop in and read the forums and blogs you can't help wanting to stay and be a part of it. You are in effect seduced. I can't think of a more fitting name. You obviously went with it because you liked it. Why second guess it now.
Leave the name as it is.

Well, let's skip over 'Astroboingin'', since kitschy doesn't do it justice.
Anyways, seduction is basically a hostile word for an act where you manipulate someone. So of course, people want you to tell them how to manipulate people into loving them, or at least boinging (ugh!) them. I think you meant it one way, but people take it another, and much less flattering way.
So let's try for simple: Romance Central. Romance could be seductive, or it could be love, but it's not Disneyland with the kids either way.
And anyways, my color associations for romance would fit with pink and red and white (i.e. close to your blog colors) whereas I'd think the appropriate colors for seduction would be black and scarlet.

['Not alliterative, but oh, well.']
Although Manwhore Central wouldn't be bad either, but I don't think you'd want to write that one.

['Probably be very popular tho.']
How much do you charge?
Just kidding. Can't believe anyone would ask a question like that! Maybe you need to have a snarky answer ready
Best of luck to you, Jeff!
Are you sure?
Jeffrey dear,I don't think of you at all as a manwhore--and never did.It's a stupid word eeven--there are no such things since male prostitutes are hustlers and gigolos, anyway--but no-- you and your site do not come across that way.
You know where I stand on the word "seduction"--yet, I have to say, I just got word from my good friend who now lives in Europe, that she thinks Seduction Central is a very *good* name.
She herself is an artist and an unusual type of businesswoman(and has done unusual businesess) so I'm letting you know.
She suggested keeping the name but with an added self-explanation--as in "Seduction Central...Astrological Understanding in Relationships".
See what she means? [I agree with this btw].
To me 'Wheel of Seduction' sounds cool, but no different than Seduction Central--w/o the alliteration.It doesn't even say Zodiac Wheel or something.
It's your blog--think of exactly how you want it, and who you want to attract, and for what--and you'll get the right name.(if it does indeed need changing)
Max you're absolutely right about what seduction mean though--I did have to validate you with that.
LOL! You got my attention with "No, I am not a manwhore" so what about Manwhore Central ;-)
No seriously what about AstroSeduction? or Seduction by the stars or Star Seduction?
Thanks for creating the forum though - it has been an interesting and stimulating place.
Interesting about "seduction." Robert at Aquarius Papers wrote a post a few years ago about seduction vs courtship, echoing Max's assertion that seduction is manipulative. But courtship has a hard C.
The name is fitting to those who know what the blog is about.
How about Astrological Seduction Central..
Perhaps you should get an advisor on that :)
I think you should leave the name as it is. I quite like Astrological Seduction Central, as suggested earlier.

Heh. I'm addressing the issue in an entirely practical sense. People (not people already here) are going to take 'Seduction' in a much darker sense than Jeff intends. The people who are already here and have no problem with the name are people who did not (for whatever reason) take it that way. (Or maybe they did and they like that.)
At any rate this seems to fall under the classification of 'Good idea; does not work in practice'. No meanness intended. There's a mismatch between what he's (you, dude) trying to communicate and what he's actually communicating. And the fact that he (you, dude) has had to say 'well, I'm not trying to help you manipulate people' and other similar things is suggestive of what he's actually communicating as opposed to what he wants to communicate.
echoing Max's assertion that seduction is manipulative. But courtship has a hard C.
I think you're putting the cart before the horse here.

['Hrmm.']
Starduction- that is what first pops at me. it is like a mix with seduction and abduction, so still seductive but a little more kinky and futuristic. a little more idiosyncratic, the way i like, the way we are.
if not starduction then i like seduction central -as is-. the alliteration is a winner and i like that its ssssss like a snake. i hear it i hear both Mainstream Central and i also think cobra dances and kali seductresses and gardens of eden.
Rope the Moon
Courting the Stars
Celestial Soul
Sleeping with Venus
Courting Venus
PlanetRockHard (just kidding)
Lunar Lust
Solar Tango
.....maybe those will at the least spark some other ideas
Erostrology?
maybe Star tango?? i like that, then u get some alliteration still and it sounds ouais, stylish.
sleeping with venus. i kinda like that.
i like too Starry Nights like the classic painting meets summer heat a la barcelona nights, miami nights.
Stars, sweat and tears
If you use Seduction in *any* of the name though, one still has the manipulation sense.
Sleeping wiht Venus sounds good too, but you'll get (still) plenty of people that think its an escort service.
Max, I knew what you meant.Trust me.
Proserpine
fallenangel said 'Courting the Stars'--how about 'Courting the Zodiac'?
or would they think it was the Zodiac killer? :-p
I actually like Seduction Central. There is nothing "dirty" about seduction. But mayb the "Astrology of Seduction" or keep Seduction Central, I like it.

Thanks for the mention - Take to heart what your readers suggest and want - they are your audience!
You also might be able to keep the name and come up with a more descriptive tag line.
Good luck!!
-Wendy
Thanks, Wendy!
well, jeffrey, just the idea that "maybe" you would use it makes me feel like i almost became famous :DD hehe
this calls for chocolate
seduction = manipulation
courting = stalking
mwahaha
i am in a goofy mood tonight. i denied that scorpio in favor of my long-standing fish, and i made the right choice....so i may be acting strange for the next few forever
mwahaha
No no no , seduction *is* about namipulation it isn't about coming on to somone or behaving in a sexy, inviting manner.But courting smeone is not stalking.
Sheeesh.
Well, it depends on who is doing the courting.
I happen to lean towards "stalker" with my courting tendencies, and I have noticed I fit in well with the Turks....who taught me this style. An American would call it stalking when a man follows you home and waits for an hour outside your door for you to come back out again and then follows your for blocks and blocks asking your name and for your phone number.
so this is culturally appropriate in Turkey?
Yo, Starry Night is my brand (for my astrology business) but I guess I can share.
I love the name "Seduction Central". It grabs attention. Isn't that what you want? But if you are going for a SEO appropriate title (drive traffic and all) you might want to include a keyword, "astrology", "zodiac",etc.
But look at all the support you have here! Doesn't that show you've brought a lot of people into your blog. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. As far as what other people think, educate them if they can't take a joke!
@Beth, I wouldn't dare poach on your brand ;)
After some thinking, you're right -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Let them think I'm a whore.
@Jeffrey
"Culturally appropriate" is an interesting way to evaluate the behavior. I can say without a doubt that it is, on at least a subcultural level, accepted as okay, because I was followed like this by men every time I went outside. The frequency with which it happened leads me to think that I didn't simply experience the behavior of one or two cultural deviants. I attend an internationally focused school and study the Middle East, and my fellow peers who have extensively traveled within that region find this behavior very common to those cultures. Turkish men are very forward and aggresive with their courting tactics on a very large scale. This is a country where honor killings still occur in the East. It's very patriarchal. To really answer your question, the answer is basically yes. Socio-economics have some effect on it within the country, but, in general, Turks are stalkers by American standards. This is still a generalization. My man is not like this at all, but he also refuses to let me call him Turkish. He hates everything about that culture, except the tea.
Max, I knew what you meant.Trust me.
Sorry!
Let them think I'm a whore.
I know!
Astro-Seduction of Manwhores Central!
max
['That's perfect!']
I say keep the name, Jeff. It's descriptive and catchy. I don't find anything negative about the word "seduction" anyhow. People seduce each other into love but are often completely oblivious to it. Love, romance, courtship and seduction are all closely related. I think people may well re-evalate their understanding of the word "seduction" and become more comfortable it after reading the blog. There's a wider meaning to it they might not initially recognise.
"Hey, how 'bout "Wheel of Seduction"? It's still a hub, but refers more to the zodiac wheel. Plus it's "on a roll" so to speak. :-)"
I think it boxes the blog in a bit much. Like the emphasis is on the astrology element rather than the seductive, romantic compatibility element. The blog is essentially down-to-earth and accessible and this should be reflected in its name.
Likewise with ...
" Rope the Moon
Courting the Stars
Celestial Soul
Sleeping with Venus"
"Heh. I'm addressing the issue in an entirely practical sense. People (not people already here) are going to take 'Seduction' in a much darker sense than Jeff intends."
No they're not; not after reading the blog for 10 seconds.
"seduction = manipulation
courting = stalking"
They are just the modern, knee-jerk reactions. There's nothing necessarily devious about either.
