Why am I so attracted to people with packed Eighth and Twelfth Houses?
Scorp provided a birth time (click chart to view) and asks,Can you do a bit on the 8th & 12th house? I am interested in why I am so attracted to people with packed 8th and 12th houses. The Eighth House is associated with Scorpio, and the Twelfth House is associated with Pisces. Someone with a packed 8th or 12th house will be Scorpionic or Piscean, respectively, regardless of the sign placement of their stellium of planets. Mind you, houses and signs are different. Signs express the planetary impulse, whereas houses indicate the area of life in which the planets express themselves. Astrology Notes has informative -- but not all-encompassing -- entries on Sun in the Eighth House and Sun in the Twelfth House.
To answer your question, we would look at chart factors that resonate with Scorpio and Pisces.
Scorpio: You have Gemini on the cusp of your Seventh House of Intimate Partnership. The ruler of Gemini, Mercury, is in Scorpio. Additionally, your Sun -- which symbolizes important men in your life -- is in Scorpio.
Pisces: Your Sun is conjunct Neptune, ruler of Pisces. A close Sun-Neptune contact in a hetero woman's chart would indicate attraction to a man who embodies Neptune: musical, imaginative, poetic, sensitive, escapist, helpless, unable to care for the responsibilities of daily life ... to name a few possible expressions of this archetype.
I also wonder if you are drawn to Aquarians. Your Sun is in the Eleventh house, your Mercury sits before the cusp of this house, and your Venus -- planet of attraction -- is conjunct Uranus. You'd be drawn to people who are unconventional and humanitarian.

Very interesting and a bit unsettling..lol. The bit on pisces re: men was the part that was unsettling, mostly because it was accurate.
And yes, I am very attracted to Aquarians, but have never had a long term relationship with one. We seem to exchange energy and move on, always leaving on a positive note.
This was very helpful. I couldnt figure out why everyone I knew had either a packed 8th or 12th house, now I do. And oddly, I thought I didnt like people heavy in pisces in general. LOL. Come to find out, I do!
Thank you
You're welcome, Scorp.
Jeffrey,I finally have a question for you.:-)
I have Chiron in the 12th in Capricorn 15 degrees, and North Node in the 12th, conjunct my ascendant in Capricorn 28 degrees.(placidus chart).
I've read up on the 12th house, and Chiron, and the NN, but it's still hard for me to completely understand, honestly.
I looked at Astrology Notes, but there is almost nothing.
Wondering what your thoughts are?
Thanks!:-)
Hey Scorp, you'd probably love me then. My sun, mercury, and jupiter are all in the 8th house. My moon and uranus are both in the 12th house, and they're both in Scorpio. Sometimes I just feel too deep for my own good. :)
Blah Blah, you are probably right.. My son has 6 planets in the 8th house and I think he is fabulous. A very deep kid. His ideas are grand and profound. Kids his age dont get him at all, but the teachers think he is amazing..lol. A fish out of water for sure.
Which of your son's 6 planets are in the 8th house?
Yep, I can relate. I moved around a lot, went to over 20 schools before college. Teachers/kids either loved me or hated me - no in-between. I always felt different, too "wise" for my peers to relate to...
It's good that your son has a mom who can appreciate his "deepness." Unfortunately, I have a Gemini mom and a Libra dad, so there was no appreciation for intense anything in our house. Funnily enough, though, my mom's N.Node is in Scorpio and my dad's saturn is in Scorpio, so maybe that's the reason why I came into this world with so many Scorp. influences. We are teaching each other some serious lessons...
Blah-blah, re: your parents and you--it's my feeling you do have lessons to teach one another.
Wanted also to just share wiht you-I have 3 planets in the 8th HSE Venus Mars and Neptune.I have Chiron and Norht Node in the 12th.I was more like you--though it's different planets and signs.I was either rerally liked or disliked and almost no one understood me.Few teachers didn't either(this was the 50s and 60s)alhtough my professors liked me in college.(thnak goodness for that).
My mother was actually thrilled wiht my intelligence but I was totally discouraged from venturing "out" or growing up.
As you might imagine-
--I am very good at fantasy and imagination, LOL, as you probably are yourself?
I had a atypical profession that was quite Scorpionic for awhile too.
Just wanted you to know I identify with you a bit there.:-)
Proserpine, I learned a LOT from my parents at a young age, lessons that were very painful at the time but that have helped me in the long-run.
That's interesting that you have venus, mars, AND neptune in the 8th house. Would you say that your love/sex/spirituality styles are in any way Scorpionic in nature?
I looked up some of the placements you mentioned and here's what I found:
Venus in 8th house means you're likely to gain financially through marriage, business partnerships, or other social relationships, primarily through an inheritance. Oftentimes, you may even be attracted to marriage BECAUSE of possible financial gain. Jealousy and possessiveness often exist in romantic relationships. (My boyfriend has this placement as well, and I can personally attest that his feelings of jealousy caused many an argument between us.)
Also having mars in the 8th house with venus adds much power and conflict to the things you love. So , mars in 8th would indicate a very strong sex drive and stamina, and conflicts about joint resources especially in romantic relationships.
Adding neptune to the mix, maybe there are conflicts regarding joint finances and you either end up giving someone else a better deal when you're in conflict about money or there's some type of deception involving money. Also, you could be attracted to occult subjects and have strong fantasies/daydreams.
As for your Chiron in the 12th, you may be attracted to healing others or need extra healing yourself. Make sure to get plenty of rest because you often feel very tired and drained (after devoting yourself to healing others?). Although you are often attracted to healing others, Chiron in Capricorn suggests you tend to want to help people organize and bring order to their lives. Combining the energy of Chiron in Capricorn in the 12th house, perhaps you tend to help people organize their feelings as a way to make their lives more orderly and easy to manage.
Your N.Node in 12th points to life lessons about Pisces issues: developing your imagination and faith in spirituality, rather than over-analyzing yourself and overcoming your S.Node in Virgo tendency of "paralysis by analysis." In otherwise, not being able to move forward because you're thinking too much of your shortcomings.
Hope this helps!
Blah Blah, care to divulge your source material? I'm always interested in how astrologers interpret house placements.
Blah-blah, thank you for trying to help.
Yes, I definitely think theres a Scrpion -like color to my love sex and spirituality, actually, that's what I was saying.;-)
Love and sex were a big big part of my life on almost on areas of my life.
I noticed always that I was bored with what wasn't deep enough formme--not necessarily *committed* ..but I wanted deep feelings to be talked about and shared and for feelings/memories etc. to be "mined".LOL.
I know the House placement /planet positions, and tendencies thereof, I was more perplexed by any clear application in my lifeof Chiron, and NN in my 12th.
I have read up on it, as I said, I know what it's supposed to be about, :-).
I just have difficulty seeing it clearly.
But then again, Neptune is also conjct my Sun LOL.
My Neptune in the 8th is actually very close to my 9th HSE, however, it seems to be in both houses somehow (in my humble opinion.)lol.
Part of what I was saying with having had "an atypical profession", too, as I have Scorpio in the 10th HSE conjunct Mercury.
Anyway, about what you shared with me about placements..
I wasn't so jealous myself actually, but unusual relationships abounded for many yrs and I was insanely jealous when my insecurity was aroused.
I never got involved with a lover for money/material things though--.. though theres something it might actually connect in that area anyway.
And I was attracted to the occult since I was a child, yes.
I've been involved in what most people mean when they say
'occult' since I was about 16.
I worked in healing of some sorts in many different ways throuought my life, working mostly in counseling, & sometimes physical and sexual healing.
I also required much helaing for many yrs emotionally, and psychologically.
I was and am drained easily, and am now physically drained as it were from an auto-immune type disorder.
Thanks for talking with me.:-)
Oh, btw, Blahblah, and Jeffrey, just to share information- I know a wonderful book on the Houses that I bought two yrs ago by astrologer Bill Herbst.
It's incredible.
And not just like every other book on placemnts either(and I've read a few too).lol.
Proserpine, perhaps your tendency is to put others before yourself (South Node conjunct 7th), and your spiritual growth requires you to focus more on your own needs.
Jeff, I found some interesting interpretations at http://www.astrology-numerology.com/inhouses.html
I would've included them before, but I wasn't sure if you allowed links to other astrologers' sites.
Jara (aka Blah Blah)
"Proserpine, perhaps your tendency is to put others before yourself (South Node conjunct 7th), and your spiritual growth requires you to focus more on your own needs."
Yes, Jeffrey! You basically summed up what I was trying to say in a nice, succinct way. Good job. No wonder you have a blog I visit all the time.
*pulling out my checkbook*
Can someone help me? I have a question about Scorpio. I'm getting to know this Scorpio guy. We've both admitted we're physically attracted to each other, but for some reason (ok, I'm part of the reason), we can't quite seem to get on the same wavelength as far as dating goes.
I recently ended a long-term relationship, so I told him I wanted to take things slow when he seemed to be moving at a breakneck speed to me. He said he understood that and wants to be friends first, but that he wants to date me, too. Well, we went on a date after a month or two of phone conversations. It went pretty well, but I got scared, so I stalled him a lot on going out again. Now that a month has passed, I'm more ready to date, but now he's acting funny with me.
For example, he asked me out last week, but I was gonna be out of town then, so we agreed next week (now this week) would be good. When I asked him about it, he said he's "booked up" but may have time on Saturday after work around 7:30. He also mentioned he knows I don't like to be out too late (hmmm?). Before, he seemed to be more flexible in his time for us to go out, but now he's "booked up?" So is this his long-winded, indirect way of saying he doesn't wanna date me anymore? Or is he living up (down?) to Scorpio's infamous reputation of being a game-player?
Sometimes I feel like there's awkward tension between us. Maybe we're not compatible? Anyone have any ideas? I'd really appreciate it!
If it helps to understand us more:
Me - Sag asc., Cancer sun, Scorpio moon, Leo mercury, Gemini venus/mars, Leo jupiter, Virgo saturn...
Him - Unknown asc., Scorpio sun, Aries moon, Sag mercury, Scorpio venus, Leo mars, Virgo jupiter, Virgo saturn...
Jeff, you did an equal chart on me?Because in my chrt the SN is in the 6th HSE as I do it--I used equal hse charts for along time, when I had no computer, actually, before there *were* any. :-)
I know it's on the cusp, but not quite in the next house.
I did see that interpretation applying too.But SN the 6th and NN in 12th does as well.
Blahblah, you too, were doing a placidus or equal chart?Or looking u what i gave you of my 'stats'?.
That was real nice of you,to try too.But like I said--I have read all that and more in many an astrology book. That's what I was trying to say.
I am glad for Jeff's explanation interpretation, but it's not what you were saying exactly.
He was reading my information differently than both of us are.
proserpine, If a planet or node is within 5 degrees of a cusp, I often interpret it as being in the next house.
This has been wonderful to read your exchanges!
Blah Blah, my son has venus, merc and sun for sure in 8th, I cant remember the rest off hand.
Oddly my mom and I are like oil and vinegar and she has a pretty busy 8th house too. We do get along when we need to, but we dont usually agree on anything.
Heh, most people love or hate me too. There is no in between.
Scorp, what signs are your son's sun, merc, and venus in? It's funny how the house placements of planets can color and modify the energy. My sun aquarius ex has venus in 8th and he was very un-aquarius in that he would get jealous OFTEN. My nickname for him was "hater" because he would automatically hate on anything or anyone I said I liked (especially if it was different from him). And he was very attached to the relationship (maybe more than his attachment to me?), which is not how Aquarius is described. His sun is in the 7th house.
Do you like that people either love you or hate you? For me, it seems weird when I get such strong reactions from people RIGHT AWAY. And sometimes, I feel like I'll meet people who look at me suspiciously or like they're trying to figure me out, which I don't like at all. I tend to be attracted to people who are very outgoing and have a similar sense of humor to mine. Quiet, analytical types weird me out.
Jeff about interpretting the planet in the next house if it is within 5 degrees [of the next house.]
I realized that as I was writing you yesterday, :-).
I see it as rather in both myself. But you're the profrssional.:-)
Proserpine, I know many astrologers who work with whole sign houses who would disagree with me. I say if the interpretation works, then I'm doing the right thing :)
I'd like to get a definitive answer to that question, too:
How many degrees away until you can interpret a planet in the next house?
My mars has been interpreted in both 6th and 7th houses and they both seem to work, but it can only be one, right?? Hard to tell which one is more "correct" because of all the mars energy (lots of aspects!) in my chart. I know that even though my venus and mars are in the same sign, they aren't conjunct by aspect...
In what house would you interpret my mars?
Venus Gemini 29°33'28 in house 7
Mars Gemini 7°02'13 end of house 6
blah blah, I am so used to peoples reactions to me, it doesnt bother me at all. I find it amusing actually.
One example:
I have a friend whose husband hates me. He took one look at me and decided he hated me. I thought it was funny. When I do things for his wife, he is always surprised. His image of me is that I am a selfish bitch. I imagine I bring out projection in those people. :-)
My sons sun , merc an venus are all in taurus.
How do you feel about how others see you?
